THE HILLS OF ROME
The story of Rome's seven hills starts with its birth; brothers Romulus and Remus each disputed where the city should be founded with Romulus choosing the Palatine and Remus the Aventine. After killing his brother, Romulus founded Rome on the Palatine which over the course of the next millennium became home to Rome's richest citizens and ultimately the Imperators of the Roman Empire.
Rome quickly outgrew its home on the Palatine and the city spread to encompass the Capitoline, Aventine, Esquiline, Caelian, Quirinal and Viminal hills, hence becoming know as the City of Seven Hills.
