Only a small proportion of Rome's largest and most prominent landmarks still stand today, with many more having been destroyed by natural causes or dismantled and recycled by human hands in its 2700 year history.

That said, few cities in the world can boast as many iconic and significant monuments as Rome. Home to famous feats of architecture such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon, the city also contains impressive works of ancient art including Emperor Augustus' Ara Pacis (Alter of Peace) and several ancient Egyptian obelisks.
