ROMAN FORUM AND IMPERIAL FORA

The Roman and Imperial Forums were the administrative and commercial heart of the ancient city and housed markets, law courts, countless temples and of course the senate (curia) building.

Whilst the Roman Forum (Forum Romanum) grew organically over time as the city grew and the needs of Rome's citizens changed, the Imperial Forums were commissioned specifically by leaders of Rome (Julius Caesar, Augustus, Nerva, Trajan) to fulfil particular purposes and to enhance their own personal prestige.
